Greatness Lost????
Where is the stage for greatness these days? I love Remember the Titans because the coaches achieve greatness and inspire us to be great. The same is true for Invincible, Miracle, Coach Carter, and Ricky Bobby. These people all used the stage of sports to achieve a legendary status and inspire others with their life. But where is that stage today? With the over media of sporting events you would think greatness would still walk among us, but it seems the opposite is true. All we see is the ego of the the athletes who might otherwise inspire us. Anyway, I have some thoughts, but I want to hear yours. Let me know what you think. Is greatness lost??

I think that achieving greatness isn’t impossible; however it seems to have lost its luster. I think a huge amount of sacrifice comes with being great. Things such as disregarding your reputation, doing what is hard and right, rather what is easy and less gratifying and so on. I don’t necessarily think that you have to be in a particular setting to be great, or inspire greatness in others. I believe that if someone was to be them self, and live that way on purpose, it would have amazing repercussions on the world around them. Coach Boone very much shows greatness in Remember the Titans. I think this was the case because when faced with adversity, he was unwavering with who he was and what he saw as right. Everything he did was on purpose, or seemed to have a purpose, and had an extreme amount of confidence. I think a lot of athletes today are always looking to win no just on the playing field, but in life, and the idea of sacrificing something to become great scares them.
hhmmmm.... we are to "descend into greatness" says Hybels, and I agree!
Jesus said, "... But it should not be that way among you. Whoever wants to become great among you must serve the rest of you like a slave. In the same way, the Son of Man did not come to be served. He came to serve others and to give His life as a ransom for many people."
The GREATEST influences in my life have been the most obscure people.
No platforms, no awards, no publicity ... just a heart to serve God and others. That's greatness, God's way. And that's the best kind of greatness.
